Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 11, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Shorewise handles data in the app and website experience.

Shorewise uses location data to provide boating-awareness features. It is designed as an advisory support tool, not a guaranteed navigation system.

1. Controller

Shorewise is operated by AH Digital.

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, you can contact: hello@shorewise.app.

2. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Shorewise handles personal data when you use the Shorewise app and the Shorewise website.

This policy is written with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in mind and is intended for users in Croatia and the European Union.

3. Data Shorewise Processes

Shorewise processes precise location data from your device while the app is in use so it can determine your position, estimate speed, calculate heading, evaluate shoreline proximity, plan routes, and request local marine weather forecasts.

If you enable background trip alerts and start a trip, Shorewise may process location data while the app is minimized so it can evaluate boating safety alerts during that active trip.

Shorewise also processes app and device state needed for core functionality, including your selected region pack, vessel type, map type, unit preferences, vibration preferences, offline pack status, and similar in-app settings.

Shorewise does not currently require a Shorewise user account. Purchases and 1-month or 3-month subscription entitlement status may be processed through the app stores and RevenueCat.

4. Why Shorewise Processes Data

Shorewise processes data to provide the app's core boating awareness features, including map display, speed-related alerts, shoreline proximity checks, marine weather display, nearby boating points of interest, offline pack management, purchases, and related in-app explanations.

Where GDPR applies, the primary basis for this processing is that it is necessary to provide the functionality you request when using the app. In addition, some processing depends on permissions and choices you make on your device, such as location access.

5. Location Data

Shorewise uses foreground location data while the app is active.

If you enable background trip alerts and start a trip, Shorewise uses background location during that active trip. You can disable this setting in the app or withdraw background location permission in your device settings.

Location data is used to power live boating-awareness functionality and to request map or weather information for your current area. Based on the current app implementation reviewed, Shorewise does not maintain a separate Shorewise cloud account database of your trip history.

When you request marine weather, your approximate request coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo so forecast data can be returned for that location.

6. Local Storage on Your Device

Certain information is stored locally on your device so the app can remember your settings and continue working as expected. This can include selected region, vessel type, map preferences, vibration settings, unit settings, and offline pack information.

Offline coastline pack files downloaded in the app are stored on your device until you remove them, clear app data, or uninstall the app.

7. Third-Party Services and Recipients

When you use Shorewise, some information may be processed by third parties that help deliver app functionality.

Map data may be provided through mapping providers used by the app, including Google Maps on supported Android configurations and the platform's default map provider on iOS.

Marine weather and wave forecasts are requested from Open-Meteo. Some depth, seamark, coastline, fuel, marina, harbor, and mooring information may come from sources such as OpenStreetMap, OpenSeaMap, EMODnet, local bundled datasets, or downloaded files.

Offline coastline packs are downloaded from external file hosting infrastructure.

Purchases, 1-month and 3-month subscription entitlement checks, and restore flows may be handled through Apple, Google, and RevenueCat. Shorewise does not directly receive your full payment card details.

These providers may receive technical information such as your IP address, device or request metadata, app identifiers, purchase identifiers, and the fact that your device requested map, weather, purchase, or download content.

8. App Diagnostics and Telemetry

Shorewise may store limited diagnostic events locally on your device, such as purchase initialization, purchase failure, restore failure, or offering configuration events. These diagnostics are intended to help identify app configuration or purchase problems and are limited in number.

If a telemetry endpoint is configured, those diagnostic events may be sent to Shorewise-controlled infrastructure. Shorewise does not currently use advertising SDKs.

9. Audio and Alerts

Shorewise plays local alert sounds and vibration patterns on your device for safety-related notifications within the app. If background trip alerts are enabled, Shorewise may also send local device notifications for safety-related alerts during an active trip.

Based on the current audited app behavior, Shorewise does not use microphone recordings to provide these alerts.

10. Sharing and Selling

Shorewise does not sell your personal data.

Shorewise shares data only to the extent needed to deliver functionality through service providers or where disclosure is required by law.

11. Retention

Data stored locally on your device generally remains there until you delete the relevant content, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.

Purchase entitlement information is retained by the relevant app store and RevenueCat according to their own retention practices. Weather, map, download, and purchase providers may retain request or diagnostic information according to their own policies.

Because Shorewise does not currently use Shorewise accounts based on the audited implementation, retained Shorewise-controlled data is primarily local-device data and limited diagnostics.

12. Your GDPR Rights

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may have the right to request access to personal data, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to processing, and data portability.

You may also withdraw permissions you have granted on your device, such as location permission, at any time in your device settings.

To exercise privacy-related rights or ask a question about your data, contact hello@shorewise.app.

13. Children

Shorewise may be used by minors, but it is intended as a general boating safety app and not as a service specifically directed at children.

If you believe personal data relating to a child has been provided in a way that raises a privacy concern, contact hello@shorewise.app.

14. International Processing

Some third-party providers used to deliver Shorewise functionality may process data outside Croatia or outside the European Economic Area.

Where that occurs, the handling of data depends in part on the provider's own infrastructure and legal safeguards.

15. Changes to This Policy

Shorewise may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

When this policy changes, the updated version will be posted with a revised effective date.
